Future of the Foundation: Meet Vice Chairman Rob Rubel

Chairmanship Year:

2021

When I joined the Independence Bowl Foundation:

I believe it was 2011. I was invited to help with the Team Announcement Party, and once I volunteered for that event, I knew early on that this was an organization I wanted to be a part of.

Why I want to be Chairman:

Being a part of the leadership group connects me with multiple portions of the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl. Everything from the selection committee to the special events. A lot of people think that this is just a football game. There’s so much more to this foundation – community events, non-profit visits, hundreds of volunteers that help year-round – than most people realize, and being a part of the leadership group, and eventually being chairman, allows me to make the most impact on this organization and community.

Favorite I-Bowl memory:

Last year’s Bowl – the entire thing. It was such a great year for our game and organization – two great teams including one local team, a great crowd, great weather, an amazing tailgate party. I was so proud of what we put together for 2019, and I can’t wait to build on that.

What I do:

Fire Sprinkler Sales for Fire Tech Systems, Inc.

What the Shreveport-Bossier City area and Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl mean to me:

Shreveport-Bossier City is home for my family, so it means a lot to me. I love this city and I love the fact that we host a historic bowl game here. It’s pretty unique for a city of our size to have that opportunity. That, coupled with the history associated with the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl makes for a very special experience. If I were in many other cities across the country, I don’t think I would have this kind of opportunity.

Something you may not know about me:

I was a child model/actor.
