​Kickoff K’s Presented by Orangetheory Fitness Hits the Streets May 15

The first public event of the Independence Bowl Foundation’s 2021 calendar of events is set, as the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl Kickoff K’s 5K and Half Marathon presented by Orangetheory Fitness will hit the streets on Saturday, May 15.

An event that was not run last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Kickoff K’s will take to the streets of Shreveport beginning at 7 a.m. on Saturday, May 15. The half marathon will begin at 7 a.m., and the 5K will begin shortly after at 7:15 a.m.

Registration for both races is available online at RadianceTechnologiesIndependenceBowl.com/Kickoff-K/ or at RunSignUp.com/Race/LA/Shreveport/KickoffKs. Early registration is currently open for both the 5K and half marathon and runs through Thursday, April 15. The registration windows and prices are as follows:

Half Marathon Registration

  • Early Registration is $60 through April 15
  • Registration goes up to $70 from April 16 – May 14
  • Race day Registration is $75

5K Registration

  • Early Registration is $20 through April 15
  • Registration goes up to $30 from April 16 – May 14
  • Race day Registration is $35

Both races will start at Fern Marketplace outside of Orangetheory Fitness – located at 1370 E 70th St, Shreveport, LA 71105. The half marathon route will travel through South Highland, as runners will get to enjoy the scenic streets of McCormick, Creswell, Thornhill, Ockley, Unadilla and Fairfield along the beautiful and challenging course.  There is a three-and-a-half-hour time limit for the half marathon course.

Every preregistered participant will receive an original “Independence Bowl Kickoff K’s” t-shirt, and runners who finish the half marathon will receive a commemorative medal. No shirts are guaranteed to registrants after May 6.

The overall male and female winner of the half marathon will receive a $1,000 cash prize, and the male and female winner from each age group (20 & Under, 21-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 & Over) will win $100. The overall men’s and women’s winners of the 5K will receive a $250 cash prize, and male and female age group winners will receive $50.
