Independence Bowl to Help Kick Off Northwestern State Football Season on August 25

SHREVEPORT, La. (Aug. 19, 2022) – The Northwestern State football season is approaching quickly, and the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl will once again help ring in the Demons’ football season with the Northwestern State/Independence Bowl Kickoff Luncheon on Thursday, August 25 at Superior’s Steakhouse.

The 26th anniversary luncheon will begin at 11:45 a.m. and comes just nine days ahead of NSU’s September 3 season opener on the road against Montana. The luncheon is all-inclusive with a salad, plated meal and dessert, and will cost $20. All payments will be accepted at the event, so attendees are asked to bring cash or check to the event.

“We at Northwestern State have always valued our relationship with the Independence Bowl,” said NSU Director of Athletics Kevin Bostian. “This event gives us another chance to meet some of our most passionate supporters in the Shreveport-Bossier City area face to face as we build toward the 2022 season. Personally, I look forward to experiencing this longstanding tradition for the first time.”

Bostian, fifth-year Demon head coach Brad Laird and Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl leadership will be on hand to address the crowd. Bostian and Laird will preview the 2022 Northwestern State season while the bowl will provide updates on the 46th annual Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl, which will be played on Friday, December 23 at Shreveport’s Independence Stadium.

ABOUT THE RADIANCE TECHNOLOGIES INDEPENDENCE BOWL™:

Established in 1976, the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl™ is the nation’s 11th-oldest bowl game, and the 46th edition will be played on Friday, December 23, 2022 at 2 p.m. CT between Army West Point and a team form the American Athletic Conference. The UAB Blazers defeated the No. 13 BYU Cougars 31-28 in the 45th Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl on Saturday, December 18, 2021. The Independence Bowl Foundation announced a one-year extension with Radiance Technologies – ensuring they will be the title sponsor through 2025. The bowl’s conference and team agreements, as well as the television agreement, also run through the 2025 season. Army West Point and BYU are slated to matchup against a rotation of the Pac-12 Conference, American Athletic Conference and Conference USA, which will be televised on an ESPN network.
