The Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl posted impressive viewership numbers for the second year in a row – welcoming 2.41 million viewers to the nail-biter between the Houston Cougars and Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns on Friday, December 23, 2022.
Some of the best players in the past decade of Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl history excelled during the NFL’s Divisional Round, as 17 former Independence Bowl players appeared in the four playoff games this weekend.

Continuing to support local education and teachers, the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl announced Wednesday that the organization will donate $5,000 apiece to Fairfield Elementary Magnet School and Bossier Parish School for Technology and Innovative Learning to support programs promoting teacher retention, recruitment and recognition.

The holiday season is around the corner and the matchup is now set for the 46th Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl, as the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns from the Sun Belt Conference will face off against the Houston Cougars of the American Athletic Conference (AAC). Kickoff for college football’s 11th most-historic bowl game is set for 2 p.m. CST on Friday, December 23 at Independence Stadium.
Recipients of 17th Annual Willis-Knighton/Independence Bowl Community Service Scholarships Announced
For 17 consecutive years, the Independence Bowl Foundation has partnered with the Willis-Knighton Health System to award two $2,500 Community Service Scholarships – one to a graduating senior from each of Caddo and Bossier Parishes, and the 2022 recipients of the Willis-Knighton/Independence Bowl Community Service Scholarship are Kyleigh Tree from Benton High School and Hannah Beth Herrington from Northwood High School
Veterans of Operation Secret Squirrel to be Honored with 2022 Omar N. Bradley Spirit of Independence Award
The Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl presents the Omar N. Bradley Spirit of Independence Award to some of the nation’s most outstanding and decorated citizens or groups, and that tradition continues in 2022, as the veterans of Operation Senior Surprise – better known as Secret Squirrel – will be honored at the 46th Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl on Friday, December 23 with the Omar N. Bradley Spirit of Independence Award.
The Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl and Sun Belt Conference announced that the bowl and conference have entered into a backup agreement, which will be in place through the 2025-26 Bowl Season.
Radiance Technologies and the Independence Bowl Foundation partnered in 2022 to establish a new event with the goal of encouraging innovative approaches to a current research and development topics – the Radiance Technologies Innovation Bowl. The teams for the inaugural Innovation Bowl have been submitted, and there are six teams from four different universities preparing to submit their projects.
Bowl week for the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl is about more than just the game on Friday, December 23 at 2 p.m. The Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl announced the full lineup of bowl week events – with the majority of the events being free to the public.
